Digitisation Calls

Digitisation calls are a means for scientists to access funding and technical support in order to digitise their biodiversity data (species samples, photographs, sound, object, document, etc). The Belgian Biodiversity Platform often launches this call for biodiversity data digitisation, which is only available to scientists working in Belgian research institutes.

Since digitisation is often the limiting step in the diffusion of biodiversity information, the Belgian Biodiversity Platform is interested in supporting small projects of digitisation of biodiversity related collections/observational data.

Once their biodiversity items are digitised, Belgian scientists may avail of the support of the Belgian Biodiversity Platform to transform this digitised information into data, so that the visibility of our biodiversity can be used in various ways.

As such, all resulting data from digitisation calls are automatically published and accessible through the GBIF.org (Global Biodiversity Information Facility an international initiative that encourages free and open access to biodiversity data) and our Belgian Biodiversity Data Portal. Furthermore, the Belgian Biodiversity Platform develops and hosts customised data portals that are user-friendly websites containing a selection of data and results pertaining to one specific project.
