The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a global environmental organisation working to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. IUCN demonstrates how biodiversity is fundamental to address societal challenges such as tackling climate change, achieving sustainable energy, improving human wellbeing and building a green economy. IUCN consists of a forum for governments, NGOs, scientists, business and local communities to find pragmatic solutions to the conservation of biodiversity and development challenges.

On request of BelSPO, the Belgian Biodiversity Platform is engaged in the establishment of an IUCN contact group linking Belgian governmental and non-governmental organisations involved in the international initiative.

For more information on the Belgian Biodiversity Platform involvement in IUCN, please contact Pierre Huybrechts, or visit the website of the Belgian IUCN National Focal Point.
