BioFresh is an EU-funded international project that aims to build a global information platform for scientists and ecosystem managers with access to all available databases describing the distribution, status and trends of global freshwater biodiversity.
BioFresh integrates the freshwater biodiversity competencies and expertise of 19 research institutions.
The Belgian partners of the BioFresh project are based at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) and are in charge of:
- Building a data portal that will be used as a central hub for freshwater biodiversity data
- Acting as a topical GBIF node
- Providing free and open access to the biodiversity it has mobilised
The Belgian Biodiversity Platform has been instrumental in the establishment of the BioFresh project. Our organisation is still involved in the project by providing technical advice and hosting for the data portal.
